Paragraphs and picture descriptions

Build a connected paragraph from a picture or imagined scene.

Original Kidemy beginner self-study unit · Learn the idea, try the practical activity and review your written answers. Practise spoken delivery with a teacher or proficient listener. Teacher-led course approval and booking are separate.

Learn the idea

Choose one main topic. Put related details together and use a sensible order, such as near to far or first to last. Do not invent a fact that a picture cannot show; phrases such as may be can mark a reasonable guess.

Worked example

Imagined scene: a child holds a watering can beside a pot. “A child stands by a plant. She holds a watering can. She may be about to water the soil.”

  1. State what is visible or given.
  2. Separate an observation from a guess.
  3. Keep all sentences connected to the scene.
