Messages, letters and everyday writing

Write a useful message or letter for a particular reader.

Original Kidemy beginner self-study unit · Learn the idea, try the practical activity and review your written answers. Practise spoken delivery with a teacher or proficient listener. Teacher-led course approval and booking are separate.

Learn the idea

A practical message should tell the reader what they need to know: purpose, action and relevant time or place. A friendly letter also needs a greeting and a closing. Use fictional details while practising.

Worked example

“Dear Rafi, Please bring the storybook to our reading club on Friday. Thank you. From Mina.” The purpose is clear and the requested action has a day.

  1. Identify the reader and purpose.
  2. Include the detail needed for the reader to act.
  3. Check the tone and closing.
