Identify inputs, a controller and outputs in a robot system.

A robot system receives information, follows programmed rules and produces actions. A sensor provides an input; a controller uses that input; a motor, light or speaker can provide an output. Robotics can begin with paper models and simulations, without buying hardware.
A simulated robot detects an obstacle with a sensor. Its controller follows “if blocked, stop”, and its motor output stops moving.

sensor
The sensor provides the input.
output
Movement is an action produced by the system.
controller
The controller uses input and rules to choose an output.

Input: low light detected by a sensor. Output: the lamp turns on.
Check that sensing and action are distinguished.

Use a paper grid or a simulator to test instructions and rules.
Accept a practical model that can represent input, decisions and output.
Draw a robot and label an input, controller and output. Add arrows to show information and action.
