Biology for the chosen programme

Interpret cellular and ecological mechanisms through an evidence-based answer.

Original Model Test for Exam unit. These questions and suggested practice times are independent Kidemy material, not an official or past paper. Choose modules for the target programme; all listed subjects are not required for every applicant.

Learn the idea

A biological explanation should connect cause and mechanism. Osmosis is net water movement across a selectively permeable membrane down a water-potential gradient. Population estimates and genetic predictions depend on model assumptions; a numerical result alone is not a diagnosis or a universal rule.

Worked example

In a simplified cell model without a wall, net water entry can increase cell volume. A plant cell wall resists expansion and supports turgor. Solute concentration alone needs care when pressure effects matter.

  1. Identify the system and membrane.
  2. Explain the direction with the appropriate gradient.
  3. State a limit of the model.
