Everyday conversations and role play

Use polite requests and relevant replies in everyday role play.

Original Kidemy beginner self-study unit · Learn the idea, try the practical activity and review your written answers. Practise spoken delivery with a teacher or proficient listener. Teacher-led course approval and booking are separate.

Learn the idea

A request asks someone to do something. Could I…? and May I…? are useful polite forms. A reply should answer the actual request; a conversation may also need a thank-you or a clarifying question.

Worked example

A: Could I borrow your pencil, please? B: Yes, here you are. A: Thank you. I will return it after the lesson.

  1. State the thing you need.
  2. Use please and a suitable tone.
  3. Respond to the request rather than changing the subject.
