Reading and explaining a task

Read a task carefully and explain what an answer must include.

Original Kidemy beginner self-study unit · Learn the idea, try the practical activity and review your written answers. Practise spoken delivery with a teacher or proficient listener. Teacher-led course approval and booking are separate.

Learn the idea

Questions use command words. Name asks for a term; describe asks for features; explain asks for a reason or how something happens. The number of requested details also matters.

Worked example

“Name two materials used in a classroom” needs two material names, such as wood and plastic. A chair is an object, not the material name requested.

  1. Identify the command word.
  2. Notice any required number or unit.
  3. Check that the answer gives the type of information requested.
