Equations, patterns and functions

Solve simultaneous equations and connect their solution to an intersection.

About this lesson and its coverage

Original Kidemy Class 8 progression. This level has its own text, examples and questions. Curriculum versions share the progression; complete board-specific coverage still needs specification matching and additional material.

Learn the idea

Two linear equations in two unknowns can be solved by elimination or substitution. A solution must satisfy both equations. On a graph it is the intersection, provided the lines are not parallel or identical.

Worked example

x+y=9 and x−y=3 add to 2x=12, so x=6 and y=3.

  1. Identify the quantities and restrictions.
  2. Show a method with units or symbols.
  3. Check and explain the result.

Apply the idea

Solve a two-variable ticket problem and verify both the total count and value.

Review with a guardian or teacher

  • Use the stated evidence or givens.
  • Show reasoning rather than only a result.
  • Review and explain one correction.
