Ratio, proportion and algebra

Share a total in a ratio and calculate a unit rate.

About this lesson and its coverage

Original Kidemy Class 6 progression. This level has its own text, examples and questions. Curriculum versions share the progression; complete board-specific coverage still needs specification matching and additional material.

Learn the idea

A ratio records an order. Add its parts before sharing a total. A unit rate compares an amount with one unit of another quantity. State units so that the rate can be used meaningfully.

Worked example

Share 35 in ratio 2:5: one part=5, shares10 and 25. If4 pens cost48 taka, each costs12 taka.

  1. Identify the quantities and restrictions.
  2. Show a method with units or symbols.
  3. Check and explain the result.

  • Use the stated evidence or givens.
  • Show reasoning rather than only a result.
  • Review and explain one correction.
