Reading comprehension and inference

Read a compact research-style passage and evaluate generalisation.

Original Kidemy Class 12 progression. This level has its own text, examples and questions. Curriculum versions share the progression; complete board-specific coverage still needs specification matching and additional material.

Learn the idea

An abstract can report design, sample, outcome and inference in little space. Identify each before evaluating it. Generalisation asks whether the evidence supports use beyond the observed group. Precision in a number does not establish representativeness or causation.

Worked example

A volunteer group completed a six-week writing workshop. Their revised drafts received higher scores from the workshop tutor than their first drafts. No comparison group or independent marker was used. The report proposes further testing with consistent marking and broader recruitment.

  1. Read the text and identify the purpose.
  2. Support your answer with a specific detail.
  3. Revise meaning, structure and accuracy.

Scores rose within this volunteer workshop under its tutor’s marking, but broader effectiveness needs a stronger comparison and independent assessment.

Retain the observed result and its conditions.
