Class 9 · English Version · Business studies

Business aims and organisation

Compare business objectives and forms of organisation using a case.

Shared cross-level core and stretch unit. Start with the core questions, then use the stretch example for deeper work. The same unit is available in related class and board pathways; it is not a full grade-specific or examination-specification course. A teacher should select the appropriate depth and further topics.

Learn the idea

An objective states a desired outcome; a strategy is a way to pursue it. Owners, workers, customers and communities can have different priorities. Legal structure affects ownership and liability, but detailed rules depend on jurisdiction. Classroom cases are not legal advice.

Worked example

A fictional tutoring cooperative wants to cover costs while keeping sessions accessible. Raising prices may support cash flow but reduce access, creating a trade-off between objectives.

  1. Identify stakeholders and objectives.
  2. Compare relevant organisational features.
  3. Support a choice with case-specific reasons.

Stretch example

A useful recommendation weighs objectives and constraints, not a list of generic advantages. A social enterprise may trade off distributable profit against its mission, but its actual governance documents determine the obligation.
