Speaking, listening and presentation

Moderate a discussion by separating disagreement from personal judgement.

Original Kidemy Class 9 progression. This level has its own text, examples and questions. Curriculum versions share the progression; complete board-specific coverage still needs specification matching and additional material.

Learn the idea

A moderator summarises different positions fairly and invites a focused response. Strong discussion challenges reasons rather than people. Checking a speaker’s meaning prevents arguing against a position they never held.

Worked example

Speaker A supports longer library hours; B worries about staffing. A fair summary notes that both may support access while disagreeing about what can be delivered.

  1. Read the text and identify the purpose.
  2. Support your answer with a specific detail.
  3. Revise meaning, structure and accuracy.

Both speakers want pupils to access books. They differ on whether extra opening can be staffed reliably.
