Learn the idea

A ratio compares quantities in a stated order. For a simple proportional recipe, multiplying every part by the same amount keeps the mixture the same.

Worked example

Red:blue = 2:3 means 2 red beads for every 3 blue beads. Two copies use 4 red and 6 blue.

  1. Read the example and explain which rule or evidence it uses.
  2. Try each task yourself, then compare the answer and its reason.

Starting with 3 cups and 2 cups, adding one to each gives 4:3, not 3:2. Scale both amounts by the same factor instead.

A counterexample plus a proportional method supports the answer.
