Learn the idea

Read for facts first. A why answer needs a reason, not only a copied name. Use clues when explaining an inference. In a spelling task, rewrite only the requested word unless the question asks for a sentence.

Worked example

Maya took a bottle of water to the park. She saw a small bird beside an empty bowl. She filled the bowl and watched from a distance. Soon the bird drank. Maya stayed quiet so she would not frighten it.

  1. Find who and where.
  2. Match each question to evidence.
  3. Check spelling and the requested answer form.
