Learn the idea

A 2D shape is flat. A 3D object takes up space. A line of symmetry divides a shape into matching halves that fit when folded along the line.

Worked example

A square has 4 equal sides. A cube has 6 square faces. A square has 4 lines of symmetry: horizontal, vertical and two diagonals.

  1. A side of a flat shape and a face of a solid are different.
  2. Find the repeating part before extending a pattern.
